United States Commends Uzbekistan’s Wide-Ranging Reform Agenda

Washington, D.C., July 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: A solemn event commemorating Uzbekistan Day was held at the U.S. Capitol, symbolizing the growing strength of strategic relations between Uzbekistan and the United States. The forum was organized in cooperation with members of the Congressional Uzbekistan Caucus and was attended by a high-level Uzbek delegation led by Sodiq Safoev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the event, the Uzbek delegation presented a comprehensive overview of the country’s ongoing political, economic, and social reforms. The discussions also covered Uzbekistan’s foreign policy priorities, its approach to regional and international security challenges, and the country’s concerted efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO). The delegation highlighted the favorable conditions created for foreign investors and reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to the principles of an open-market economy.

Prominent members of the U.S. Congress, including Congressman Trent Kelly, Senator Steve Daines, and Congresswoman Carol Miller, took part in the forum alongside executives from the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, representatives of international corporations, and foundations. Participants praised Uzbekistan’s reform agenda and described the country as a leading force for positive transformation in Central Asia.

On the sidelines of the event, the delegation from the Senate of the Oliy Majlis also held a substantive meeting at the U.S. Trade Mission. The talks focused on Uzbekistan’s WTO accession, the tangible results of domestic reforms, and avenues for expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The U.S. side expressed strong interest in deepening its strategic partnership with Uzbekistan, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, and technological collaboration.

Highlighting investment opportunities, the forum presented several large-scale projects currently underway in Uzbekistan with American partners. Notably, it was revealed that a major project at the Almalyk copper deposit is set to receive $4.5 billion in investment, signaling robust investor confidence in the country’s economic environment.

In addition to economic cooperation, discussions also addressed social development, investment in human capital, and educational exchange. Special emphasis was placed on joint programs under the “Young Business Leaders” initiative, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among youth.

The forum and its surrounding discussions were widely covered by the media, reflecting the significance of the occasion and the high level of organization. The event served not only as a celebration of Uzbekistan Day but also as a powerful platform to deepen bilateral relations, promote mutual understanding, and give fresh momentum to the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States.
