Jakarta, The Europe Today – August 5, 2025: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was awarded a prestigious medal of honor by the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening defense cooperation and bilateral relations between Indonesia and the United States.
The award was personally conferred by SOCOM Commander General Bryan Patrick Fenton during a meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, August 4.
According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, President Prabowo warmly welcomed General Fenton upon his arrival. The two leaders exchanged friendly greetings, with President Prabowo expressing his pleasure at the visit. “Hi, General, how are you?” he said, followed by a light-hearted remark: “You still look fit, don’t you?” while placing a hand on Fenton’s shoulder.
General Fenton conveyed his honor in meeting with President Prabowo, stating that he was proud to represent over 70,000 servicemen and servicewomen of SOCOM on this important occasion.
In a cordial atmosphere within the Presidential Office, General Fenton formally presented the medal of honor to President Prabowo, commending his visionary leadership in fostering closer defense ties between the two countries. He further praised the Indonesian President’s unwavering commitment to regional peace and security, his active support for global counter-threat efforts, and his efforts to elevate bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.
In addition to the medal, General Fenton also presented a commemorative souvenir to President Prabowo, suggesting it would be a fitting addition to the presidential office.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking Indonesian officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
The recognition underscores the growing strategic partnership between Indonesia and the United States, particularly in the area of defense and regional stability.
