Baku, August 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Saturday held a telephone conversation with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan.
During the talks, the two sides warmly recalled Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s recent visit to Azerbaijan, including his trip to the Karabakh region, and the constructive discussions held during the visit. Both leaders reaffirmed the steady development of friendly and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
The importance of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, hosted in Turkmenistan’s coastal city of Awaza, was highlighted. President Aliyev congratulated Chairman Berdimuhamedov on the successful organization of the event.
The conversation also covered the key outcomes of President Aliyev’s recent working visit to the United States, notably the Joint Declaration signed by the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, the initialing of the Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the joint appeal to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group. These steps were described as pivotal for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
President Aliyev underlined the special role of President Donald Trump in facilitating these results and expressed confidence that the establishment of unimpeded transport links between Azerbaijan’s mainland and its Nakhchivan region would foster prosperity across the wider region.
Chairman Berdimuhamedov congratulated President Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people on the historic agreements reached. President Aliyev requested Chairman Berdimuhamedov to convey his greetings to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, while Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov passed on President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s greetings and congratulations to the Azerbaijani leader.
The two sides also exchanged views on future high-level contacts.
