Leaders of Religious Communities in Azerbaijan Extend Gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev

Baku, August 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: Leaders of various religious confessions operating in Azerbaijan have jointly addressed an appeal to President Ilham Aliyev, expressing deep appreciation for his leadership and historic achievements in strengthening the nation’s sovereignty and international standing.

In their message, the religious leaders conveyed heartfelt greetings and blessings to the Head of State, thanking him for declaring 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” ahead of the fifth anniversary of the Great Karabakh Victory. They highlighted the historic importance of agreements signed during President Aliyev’s recent high-level engagements in a leading world power, noting their significant political and diplomatic impact.

The appeal praised President Aliyev’s decisive role in restoring Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its ancestral lands, emphasizing his “iron political will” and the international recognition of the country’s victory. The leaders also welcomed the revocation of Section 907 by then–U.S. President Donald Trump in the presence of President Aliyev, calling it a symbol of respect and trust towards Azerbaijan and a milestone in establishing strategic cooperation with the United States.

Citing the Quranic verse, “Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory” (Surah Al-Fath, 1), the religious leaders underscored that the President’s policies have restored historical justice at the highest global level. They commended Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized model of inter-religious harmony, attributing it to President Aliyev’s consistent support for spiritual heritage, religious sites, and the coexistence of different faith communities.

Reaffirming their unwavering support for the President’s domestic and foreign policy, the signatories expressed confidence in his continued service for peace, security, and economic progress in the region. They concluded with prayers for his success and the prosperity of Azerbaijan.

The appeal was signed by Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Office of Caucasus Muslims; Bishop Alexiy of the Russian Orthodox Church Diocese of Baku and Azerbaijan; Bishop Vladimir Fekete, Ordinary of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Roman Catholic Church in Azerbaijan; Milikh Yevdayev, Head of the Mountain Jewish Community; Alexander Sharovsky, Head of the European Jewish Community in Baku; Robert Mobili, Chairman of the Albanian-Udi Christian Religious Community; and Zamir Isayev, Head of the Baku Religious Community of Sephardic Jews.
