Bucharest, August 21, 2025 — The Europe Today: The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has announced the establishment of a Consultative Advisory Council aimed at enhancing cooperation with civil society and the academic community, in a move to broaden the scope of modern diplomacy.
State Secretary Oana Țoiu confirmed that the council was initiated to create a structured forum for consultation, analysis, and collaboration. The first meeting was hosted at the MAE headquarters with representatives from Romania’s associative environment, alongside experts in international relations, European affairs, and political science, including members of the Romanian diaspora.
“At the beginning of my term, I said that we would respond to common challenges better together, so we initiated the MAE Advisory Council: a forum for consultation, analysis and collaboration,” Țoiu said.
She underlined that Romania holds “increased relevance and attention, not only in the region,” and stressed that diplomacy in today’s world operates on multiple levels where the role of civil society remains essential. “Foreign policy stakes are not personal nor do they belong only to formal institutions, they are ours as a country and society. In this context, we continue the organizational culture of collaboration,” she added.
The Advisory Council will operate as an open mechanism of participation, with the ministry welcoming proposals from relevant organizations.
Țoiu expressed gratitude to participating institutions and experts for their ongoing contributions. “Only by working together will we be able to connect the efforts of Romanian diplomacy to the resources and dynamism of civil society,” she noted.
The new initiative is expected to strengthen Romania’s capacity to engage more inclusively on international challenges by linking diplomatic efforts with the expertise and energy of civil society and academia.
