Hanoi, August 23, 2025 – The Europe Today: Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives, Gerry Brownlee, will pay an official visit to Vietnam from August 27 to 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The visit, made at the invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, is expected to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries and parliaments. It reflects the commitment of Vietnam and New Zealand to enhance mutual understanding, deepen political trust, and expand cooperation across multiple fields.
During his stay, Speaker Brownlee is scheduled to hold talks with Chairman Mẫn and meet with other senior Vietnamese leaders. The two sides are anticipated to discuss parliamentary cooperation, the exchange of delegations, and the promotion of dialogue mechanisms between legislative bodies. They will also review the implementation of agreements within the framework of the Vietnam–New Zealand Strategic Partnership, which was established in 2020.
Vietnam and New Zealand have enjoyed steadily growing relations in recent years, particularly in trade, education, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges. New Zealand is currently one of Vietnam’s important partners in the South Pacific, with bilateral trade surpassing USD 1.3 billion in 2023. Both countries are also active members of regional and multilateral forums, including APEC and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The upcoming visit by Speaker Brownlee is expected to contribute to consolidating parliamentary diplomacy and creating new momentum for the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand in the years ahead.
