President Erdogan Meets President Putin on SCO Summit Sidelines in Tianjin

Tianjin, September 01, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Council Summit in Tianjin, China.

The two leaders met at a hotel in Tianjin, where President Erdogan reiterated his invitation for Putin to visit Türkiye. “My dear friend, you know how much we would like to welcome you to Türkiye. My invitation remains open. We look forward to seeing you in our country as soon as possible. We have a sincere relationship based on trust. Our relationship continues to progress unaffected by temporary challenges,” Erdogan said.

During their talks, Erdogan and Putin reviewed bilateral relations between Türkiye and Russia, alongside key regional and global developments. Erdogan emphasized that relations between the two nations continue to advance on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests, highlighting cooperation in trade, tourism, investments, and energy.

On the Ukraine conflict, Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to efforts aimed at securing a just and lasting peace, recalling the contribution of the Istanbul talks to the negotiation process.

The leaders also exchanged views on Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza, as well as developments in Syria, underscoring the importance of preserving Syria’s political unity. Erdogan further expressed hope that negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia would result in durable peace and stability in the Caucasus, serving the interests of both Türkiye and Russia.

President Erdogan was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir, Trade Minister Omer Bolat, National Intelligence Organization Chief Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Directorate Chief Burhanettin Duran, and Chief Presidential Advisor Cagri Erhan.
