Tianjin, September 01, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, met with Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in Tianjin, China, on Sunday.

Prime Minister Sharif conveyed gratitude on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan for Azerbaijan’s unwavering political support and solidarity during India’s military aggression against Pakistan in April–May this year.

President Aliyev, while underscoring the deep-rooted brotherly ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, congratulated Pakistan on its victory over India. He noted that, in retaliation to Azerbaijan’s principled support for Pakistan, India had attempted to act against Azerbaijan in international organizations. However, he stressed that such actions hold no importance for Azerbaijan, as fraternal relations with Pakistan remain paramount.

Prime Minister Sharif warmly recalled his past visits to Azerbaijan and highlighted the significance of the trilateral meeting in Lachin involving Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan. In response, President Aliyev reaffirmed that concrete steps were being taken to implement the outcomes of the Azerbaijan–Türkiye–Pakistan trilateral framework.

Sharif also congratulated the Azerbaijani leader on progress in normalizing relations and advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, describing it as a historic milestone. President Aliyev thanked him for the kind words and emphasized the importance of these achievements for ensuring sustainable peace in the region.

The Azerbaijani head of state further highlighted the significance of his recent visit to Washington in the context of strengthening Azerbaijan–U.S. relations, particularly acknowledging the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in this process.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the activities of the Azerbaijan–Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission, placing particular focus on enhancing economic and trade cooperation in line with the close political relations. Additional instructions were given to respective officials to accelerate these efforts. The leaders also welcomed the implementation of a project in Pakistan modeled on Azerbaijan’s “ASAN Khidmet” public service initiative, considering it a positive step toward greater bilateral collaboration.
