Indonesia Condemns Israeli Attack on Qatar as Betrayal of Peace Process

Qatar

Doha, September 17, 2025 — The Europe Today: Indonesia has strongly condemned Israel’s recent military strike in Doha, Qatar, which targeted the Palestinian group Hamas, describing it as a betrayal of the peace process and a violation of international law.

The condemnation was delivered by Ambassador Achsanul Habib, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Indonesia in Geneva, during the Urgent Debate of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) held in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

“As a member of the Human Rights Council, Indonesia condemns the attack on Qatar—a country serving as a mediator—as a betrayal of the peace process and a grave violation of the UN Charter and international law,” Habib stated in a release issued by PTRI Geneva.

He stressed that such military actions have eroded trust, undermined hopes for peace in Gaza, and must not go unpunished. “The international community must act decisively,” he urged.

Indonesia reiterated that a just and lasting peace in the Middle East cannot be realized without the implementation of a Two-State Solution. The country reaffirmed its full support for Qatar, Palestine, and all nations committed to upholding justice, defending sovereignty, and championing humanity.

The Urgent Debate was convened at the request of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) following Israel’s attack on Qatar on September 9, 2025.

In his opening remarks, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk described the strike on negotiators in Doha as a shocking breach of international law and an assault on regional peace and security. He echoed the statement of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who denounced the attack as a “flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The debate saw strong participation, with 93 national statements and 12 from international NGOs, reflecting the international community’s deep concern over Israel’s repeated violations of international law and its collective resolve to end impunity.
