New York, September 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: On September 25, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN headquarters on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
At the outset of the visit, President Aliyev signed the UN book of distinguished guests, underscoring Azerbaijan’s continued commitment to the principles and values of the United Nations. The two leaders then posed for official photographs, marking the beginning of their high-level engagement.
The meeting carried particular diplomatic significance as it came at a time when Azerbaijan continues to play an active role in addressing global challenges, including regional peacebuilding, energy security, sustainable development, and South-South cooperation. The discussions highlighted Azerbaijan’s growing profile within the UN system, reinforced by its contributions to multilateral dialogue and its initiatives in support of international law and the UN Charter.
President Aliyev’s engagement with Secretary-General Guterres also underscored Azerbaijan’s support for the UN’s central role in maintaining international peace and security. The exchange reaffirmed the importance of strengthening multilateralism and enhancing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations across a broad spectrum of issues.
