Ankara, October 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, affirming that it will “definitely” be realized on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
“Just as our Syrian brothers and sisters gained their freedom, a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital will definitely be established,” Erdogan declared during his address to the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party’s parliamentary group meeting in Ankara.
The president emphasized that peace in the Middle East cannot rest solely on the shoulders of Palestinians or Hamas. “Peace is not a one-winged bird. Placing the entire burden of peace on Hamas and the Palestinians is neither fair nor realistic,” he said.
Condemning the ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza, Erdogan called for an immediate end to the attacks. “Israel continues its aggression despite clear international calls for restraint. If peace is truly desired, Israel’s attacks must be stopped immediately,” he stated.
Erdogan accused the Israeli government of committing atrocities against Palestinians, saying, “For two full years now, they have surpassed even Hitler in committing genocide. They have used hunger as a weapon and let innocent children die of starvation. Gaza has been turned into a massive pile of rubble, yet the will to resist of its people remains unbroken.”
Highlighting Türkiye’s multi-dimensional approach to the crisis, the president said Ankara is simultaneously advancing humanitarian, diplomatic, and trade measures while advocating international recognition of the Palestinian state. “A ceasefire and a just peace are the most reasonable choices for all parties. The talks in Sharm El-Sheikh are of critical importance, and we hope for positive results,” he remarked.
Erdogan reaffirmed that Türkiye would continue to stand firmly with the Palestinian people. “During this process, we will never, ever leave our Palestinian brothers alone,” he vowed.
He also commended Hamas for its constructive participation in recent peace initiatives. “Hamas has responded positively to President (Donald) Trump’s peace plan, clearly demonstrating its will for peace,” Erdogan said, adding that Türkiye supports international efforts aimed at achieving a lasting and just settlement in the region.
