Baku, October 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday received a delegation led by Elina Valtonen, Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland.
At the outset of the meeting, Minister Valtonen conveyed the greetings of President of Finland Alexander Stubb to President Ilham Aliyev. The Azerbaijani head of state expressed gratitude and asked her to convey his reciprocal greetings to President Stubb.
During the discussions, both sides recalled with appreciation the previous meetings between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Finland, and noted Finland’s high-level participation in the COP29 conference held in Baku, reflecting the deepening cooperation between the two nations in multilateral platforms.
Elina Valtonen congratulated President Aliyev on the recent progress achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia during talks in Washington, describing the outcome as an important step toward restoring peace and stability across the OSCE region and enhancing regional cooperation.
She further announced that, at the joint request of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the activities of the OSCE Minsk Process and its related structures would be formally terminated by December 1, 2025, marking a new phase in the peace process.
President Ilham Aliyev noted that the agreements reached in Washington, in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, had created favorable conditions for advancing the peace agenda between the two neighboring countries. He also underscored the significance of the TRIPP project, for which Armenia assumed responsibility during the Washington discussions, emphasizing its importance for regional cooperation and its positive impact on the wider region’s development.
The meeting also addressed the prospects for Azerbaijan–OSCE cooperation and explored opportunities for strengthening bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Finland, particularly in areas of shared interest such as diplomacy, environmental sustainability, and regional connectivity.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to promoting dialogue, stability, and constructive engagement in support of lasting peace and mutual prosperity in the South Caucasus and beyond.
