Hanoi, October 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: Việtnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to protect Vietnamese citizens who have been victims of human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment into cybercrime operations in neighbouring Cambodia.
At a regular press briefing in Hànội, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Phạm Thu Hằng highlighted the government’s commitment to safeguarding its nationals amid the “complex developments of fraudulent criminal activities and forced labour in Cambodia.”
“Countries, including Việtnam, have engaged in vigorous action to protect and safeguard the rights and interests of their citizens,” Hằng stated.
She noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively working with partner countries to establish cooperation mechanisms aimed at improving the effectiveness of citizen protection and combating organised and high-tech crime across the region.
Hằng said Vietnamese representative missions in Cambodia have been instructed to closely monitor the situation, adopt timely countermeasures, and maintain coordination with authorities in both countries to ensure the protection and safe return of Vietnamese nationals.
Regarding the recent detention of eight Vietnamese citizens during Cambodian raids on scam compounds, Hằng confirmed that Việtnam’s missions in Cambodia had contacted local authorities to verify the case and requested assurance of the detainees’ safety and living conditions.
The ministry has directed relevant agencies to coordinate consular procedures for the prompt repatriation of Vietnamese citizens, with 33 nationals expected to be brought home in the coming days.
In response to media inquiries about the discovery of a South Korean woman’s body near the Việtnam–Cambodia border, Hằng said the ministry is “verifying the information” and reaffirmed that Việtnam remains ready to cooperate in addressing matters concerning foreign nationals in line with domestic and international law.
