Turkmenistan and ADB Sign €64.7 Million Agreement to Build Modern Nursing College in Ashgabat

Turkmenistan

AshgabatNovember 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed an agreement to finance the construction of a modern nursing college in Ashgabat valued at €64.7 million (approximately $75 million), the ADB press service announced on Tuesday.

The agreement was signed during the official visit of ADB President Masato Kanda to Turkmenistan, marking a significant milestone in the country’s collaboration with the bank in the health sector.

The project forms part of the “Enhancing the Quality and Capacity of Nursing Education” initiative — ADB’s first health sector program in Turkmenistan. The initiative aims to strengthen healthcare education and improve the quality of medical training across the country.

In addition to ADB’s financing, the program will receive a $2 million grant from the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific, which will support capacity-building and modernization efforts within the new institution.

A separate cooperation agreement on technical support was also signed between the Turkmen Ministry of Health and Medical Industry and the ADB, paving the way for enhanced collaboration in healthcare education, infrastructure, and professional development.

The new nursing college is expected to play a vital role in advancing Turkmenistan’s healthcare system by equipping future medical professionals with modern skills and knowledge aligned with international standards.
