Vietnamese Prime Minister Meets Vietnamese Community in Kuwait

Kuwait

Kuwait CityNovember 17, 2025 – The Europe Today:  Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, his spouse Lê Thị Bích Trân, and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation met with staff of Vietnamese representative offices and members of the Vietnamese community in Kuwait on Sunday evening, as part of the PM’s official visit to the Gulf nation.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Chính highlighted the longstanding friendship between Việt Nam and Kuwait, noting that Kuwait was the first member of the Gulf Cooperation Council and among the earliest Middle Eastern countries to establish diplomatic ties with Việt Nam shortly after national reunification in 1975. He emphasized that the two nations have consistently maintained relations based on mutual respect, support, solidarity, and shared perspectives on regional and global issues.

The Prime Minister underscored the significance of his visit, during which both sides aim to elevate their bilateral partnership and are expected to sign several important cooperation agreements across key sectors. He also briefed the community on Việt Nam’s domestic situation, noting that the country is on track to meet or exceed all 15 major socio-economic targets for 2025.

PM Chính attributed Việt Nam’s achievements to the contributions and active engagement of overseas Vietnamese, including those living and working in Kuwait. He praised the Vietnamese community for their unity, mutual assistance, and successful integration into local society, stressing that the Party and State consider overseas Vietnamese an inseparable part and vital resource of the nation.

He affirmed that the Party and State have introduced numerous policies to protect the rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese and to create favorable conditions for them. The Prime Minister instructed ministries, agencies, and particularly Việt Nam’s diplomatic missions — including the embassy in Kuwait — to strengthen channels of communication with the community to ensure timely support when needed. He also said he would encourage Kuwaiti authorities to continue facilitating the Vietnamese community’s stable living and employment conditions.

Prime Minister Chính directed domestic agencies to take more proactive steps to meet the legitimate needs of overseas Vietnamese. He placed particular emphasis on the early establishment of a direct Việt Nam–Kuwait air route, the implementation of more open and convenient visa policies, and enhanced information-sharing on investment, trade, tourism promotion, and opportunities in the Halal market.

He encouraged the Vietnamese community to remain united, maintain a strong and reputable presence, preserve their cultural traditions and language, and strive for excellence in their work and studies to contribute to the nation’s development.

Ambassador Nguyễn Đức Thắng reported that although small in number, the Vietnamese community in Kuwait actively contributes to the country’s socio-economic landscape. Many Vietnamese professionals work in key sectors, including long-term roles in Kuwait’s core oil and gas industry and in major international petroleum corporations.

Community representatives expressed their appreciation to the Party and State for their continued attention to overseas Vietnamese. They proposed improved access to online public services, the establishment of a direct air route between Việt Nam and Kuwait, and more flexible visa policies. They also suggested boosting tourism and cultural promotion in Kuwait, and developing tourism products tailored to the Middle Eastern market — including high-end beach destinations, family resorts, shopping, wellness services, and Halal cuisine — to better serve Muslim travelers.
