Johannesburg, November 23, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has joined global leaders at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, where he was formally received by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa during the official opening ceremony.
President Erdoğan participated in the ceremonial commencement of the summit at the Johannesburg Expo Center, engaging in the traditional welcome proceedings alongside heads of state and government from around the world. His attendance reaffirms Türkiye’s active engagement in the G20, the leading platform for international economic cooperation.
During the welcome ceremony, President Erdoğan and President Ramaphosa exchanged handshakes and took part in the customary group photograph, reflecting the cordial diplomatic ties between Türkiye and South Africa.
Accompanying the Turkish president is a high-level delegation comprising Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and Chief Foreign Policy and Security Adviser Akif Çağatay Kılıç. Their presence underscores Türkiye’s comprehensive and multi-sectoral approach to the summit’s agenda, which covers global economic challenges and collaborative strategies for sustainable development.
The Johannesburg summit brings together leaders of major world economies representing nearly 85 percent of global GDP, providing an important platform for addressing shared challenges and enhancing multilateral cooperation. President Erdoğan’s participation aligns with Türkiye’s strategic foreign policy objective of maintaining a strong and influential role in shaping global economic governance.
