Türkiye Reelected to UN International Maritime Organization Council

Türkiye

Ankara, November 29, 2025 – The Europe Today: Türkiye has been reelected to the council of the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced on Friday, reaffirming the country’s active role in global maritime governance.

In a statement, the ministry said the reelection underscores Türkiye’s trusted contributions to maritime safety, environmental protection, international shipping, and port services. “Türkiye will continue to make tangible contributions to multilateral cooperation in the maritime sector,” the statement added.

Türkiye first sought a seat on the IMO Council in 1999 and has maintained uninterrupted representation ever since, demonstrating its longstanding expertise and capacity in international maritime affairs.

The announcement comes as the IMO’s 34th assembly continues in London and is scheduled to run through December 3.
