Kazakhstan Secures First-Ever Medal at Para-Karate World Championships in Cairo

Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s national para-karate team has achieved a historic milestone at the Para-Karate World Championships in Cairo, Egypt, according to media reports. Lyazzat Zhussupova earned a bronze medal in the K10 category for athletes with partial or complete vision loss, marking the country’s first-ever World Championship medal in para-karate since it began participating in 2017.

The national team was represented by three athletes: Nazgul Izmagambetova in the K30 category for athletes with musculoskeletal impairments; Didar Mukhamedzhanov, also competing in the K30 category; and Lyazzat Zhussupova in the K10 category for visually impaired athletes.

The result follows Kazakhstan’s remarkable performance earlier this year at the 4th Asian Para-Karate Championships in Tashkent, where the team secured two gold medals—won by Zhussupova and Izmagambetova—along with one silver and four bronze medals.

The Para-Karate World Championships, first introduced in 2014 as part of the World Karate Federation (WKF) program, feature para-athletes competing exclusively in kata. The discipline requires participants to perform individual sets of technical movements and forms, without sparring.

Kazakhstan’s breakthrough in Cairo highlights the growing strength and potential of the nation’s para-karate program on the global stage.
