Astana, December 7, 2025 – The Europe Today: Large parts of Kazakhstan are bracing for hazardous weather conditions on December 7, with black ice, blowing snow, and widespread fog expected across multiple regions, according to Kazhydromet National Weather Service, Qazinform reports.

In the capital, Astana, forecasters warn of persistent icy conditions throughout the day, prompting authorities to urge motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution.

Widespread Weather Hazards Across Regions

The Akmola region is forecast to experience blowing snow and black ice, with fog predicted in the western, northern, and eastern areas. Wind speeds may reach 15–20 m/s. Similar conditions are expected in the Abai region, where blowing snow, ice, and fog will affect visibility and travel.

In the East Kazakhstan region, residents should prepare for low-drifting snow, ice, and fog, accompanied by gusts of 15–20 m/s. The north, east, and south of the Aktobe region are expected to see icy conditions during the day.

The Atyrau region will encounter pockets of fog in its northern districts, while the West Kazakhstan region will face both fog and icy surfaces. Icy conditions are also anticipated in the Mangistau region.

Mountainous Regions and Southern Areas Also Affected

Mountain zones in the Zhambyl region will see fog and ice, with winds reaching 15–20 m/s. Fog is also expected across the western, southern, and central parts of the Turkistan region, including high-altitude areas.

The western part of the Kyzylorda region is forecast to face both fog and ice, while the Zhetysu region will experience similar hazards in mountainous and foothill zones. Southwesterly winds near the Alakol lakes may strengthen to 15–20 m/s.

Northern and Central Kazakhstan Brace for Severe Conditions

In the Kostanay region, blowing snow and black ice are likely in the west, north, and east, with patchy fog in several districts. Pavlodar’s northern and western areas will face blowing snow, accompanied by strengthening southwesterly winds of up to 20 m/s.

The North Kazakhstan region is expected to experience blowing snow, ice, and fog in its western and northern parts. Daytime conditions in the Ulytau region will bring fog and ice to the north and east.

The Karaganda region will see ice and extensive fog affecting the north, east, and south.

Kazhydromet previously reported that an Arctic anticyclone is moving across Kazakhstan, bringing a wave of severe frost to the country in the coming days.
