Türkiye–Malaysia Trade Relations See Significant Growth in 2025

Malaysia

Ankara, December 11, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkish exports to Malaysia recorded a substantial 52% year-on-year increase in the January–October period, reaching $509.5 million, driven by strengthened commercial ties and intensified cooperation efforts in trade and tourism.

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the overall trade volume between Türkiye and Malaysia rose 11.6% during the first 10 months of the year, totaling $4.3 billion. For 2024, bilateral trade had stood at $4.9 billion.

Officials note that the latest upward trend gained momentum following President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit to Malaysia on February 10–11, during which the two nations signed 11 cooperation agreements. The accords—covering energy, trade, scientific research, and defense exports—have begun to positively reflect in the trade figures.

Türkiye has designated Malaysia as part of its “Far Countries Strategy”, with plans to deepen collaboration in trade, tourism, defense, and investments.

At a joint press conference during Erdogan’s visit, the Turkish president and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim agreed to raise the bilateral trade target from $5 billion to $10 billion. Erdogan emphasized that technology transfer and joint production initiatives have energized Türkiye’s defense industry, adding that Turkish firms are prepared to share expertise and products with Malaysia in a bid to achieve mutual economic benefit.

Meanwhile, tourism relations also continue to strengthen. The number of Malaysian tourists visiting Türkiye climbed 11% year-on-year in October, reaching 82,315, according to the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry. If the current trend persists, the number of Malaysian visitors is expected to surpass 100,000 by the end of the year.

The latest developments reflect a growing strategic partnership, with both nations aiming to expand cooperation across multiple sectors in the years ahead.
