Hanoi, December 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has urged the Ministry of National Defence and relevant agencies to continue advancing modern, high-tech weapons and military equipment as part of Vietnam’s national defence and security strategy for 2026.

Speaking at a working session on Wednesday focused on implementing national defence and security tasks, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to further develop the country’s defence industry.

Reports from the session noted that in 2025, Vietnam’s defence industry and military science achieved significant innovation, technological breakthroughs, and positive results, enhancing the country’s capacity for research, design, production, and modernisation of weapons and equipment under Vietnamese brands.

Prime Minister Chính commended the Ministry of National Defence for its outstanding performance, particularly in equipping the armed forces with modern technology and advancing the defence industry.

Amid complex and unpredictable global developments, he stressed that any nation seeking prosperity must maintain strategic resilience, stability, and a peaceful environment conducive to cooperation and growth. He reaffirmed the importance of firmly safeguarding Vietnam’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, including land, maritime, airspace, and cyberspace.

Chính emphasized that ensuring sovereignty requires comprehensive strength, encompassing soft power, hard power, and national unity. He called for proactive innovation and creativity, with a strong focus on researching and producing advanced weapons and equipment to successfully meet the defence objectives of 2026.

The Prime Minister also tasked the military with developing dual-use products for both defence and civilian purposes, and enhancing capacities for research, forecasting, and situation assessment to advise the Party and State on effective military and defence policies.

He requested strict implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 57-NQ/TW and other relevant resolutions on science, technology, and defence industry development, urging the mobilisation of all economic sectors—including private enterprises—in advancing foundational and core defence technologies.

Prime Minister Chính highlighted the need to remove institutional and policy bottlenecks, mobilise financial resources, offer preferential policies to attract talent, improve worker training, accelerate key tasks, and strengthen international cooperation in the defence industry.
