Türkiye’s FM Hakan Fidan Meets Ukraine’s Security Council Secretary in Ankara

Anakara, January 1, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Tuesday held talks with Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

According to a statement shared by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on the social media platform X, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, though no further details were disclosed.

The engagement comes amid intensified diplomatic efforts by regional and international actors to bring an end to the Russia–Ukraine conflict, which is approaching its fourth year.

Türkiye has positioned itself as a key diplomatic interlocutor in the crisis, maintaining constructive relations with both Moscow and Kyiv. Leveraging these ties, Ankara has repeatedly called for dialogue and peaceful resolution, while actively supporting initiatives aimed at de-escalation and lasting stability in the region.
