Jakarta, January 4, 2026 – The Europe Today: Nusantara, Indonesia’s future capital, is developing an integrated education zone alongside housing and public services as authorities work to ensure schools are operational before residents and civil servants fully relocate, officials said.
Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara/OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono said education facilities are being constructed in parallel with other supporting infrastructure in the Core Government Center Area (KIPP).
“Education facilities are being developed at the same time as other essential services in the KIPP,” Basuki said on Sunday during a visit to Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara District, East Kalimantan.
He explained that the approach is designed to allow residential occupancy and social activities to proceed simultaneously, ensuring Nusantara develops as a livable city rather than merely an administrative hub.
According to Basuki, the integrated education model prepared by the Nusantara Capital Authority is expected to improve access, enhance service quality, and reduce daily mobility needs, while also reflecting strong political support for the new capital’s development.
He emphasized that sustained backing is essential to accelerate the provision of public services, including education, so that construction and development targets for Nusantara can be achieved on schedule. The education zone within the KIPP is planned as a comprehensive service center, covering all levels from kindergarten and elementary education to junior and senior high school.
“The education area is intended to meet the basic needs of residents and civil servants,” Basuki said, referring to state employees who are set to relocate to the new capital in stages.
Preparations for education infrastructure in the KIPP are currently focused on the 2026/2027 academic year. Among the flagship projects is SMA Taruna Nusantara, a senior high school targeted to begin admitting students in 2026.
Basuki said the school is expected to strengthen Nusantara’s education ecosystem as a foundation for human resource development, serving as a leading institution focused on character building, competitiveness, and national insight.
