Baku, February 17, 2026 – The Europe Today: The foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Georgia held another round of consular consultations in Baku, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in consular and legal matters.
The consultations were led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Giorgi Tabatadze, Director of the Directorate of International Legal, Consular and Diaspora Affairs of Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was attended by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Georgia, Faig Guliyev, Georgia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze, as well as representatives from Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office, Ministry of Justice, and State Migration Service.
During the discussions, the sides reviewed the current state and future prospects of cooperation in providing consular assistance to their respective citizens. Particular attention was given to the protection of the rights and freedoms of nationals residing or traveling in each other’s territories, as well as the potential signing of additional bilateral documents to facilitate smoother coordination.
The consultations also addressed broader areas of cooperation, including justice, migration management, education, social protection, and other priority sectors of mutual interest. Both parties agreed to intensify collaboration to enhance institutional coordination and improve services for their citizens.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol formalizing the outcomes of the consultations and outlining steps for continued engagement between Azerbaijan and Georgia in consular and related fields.
