Azerbaijan and Austria Discuss Expanding Musical Cooperation

Vienna, February 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: As part of his official visit to Austria, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Culture and People’s Artist Murad Huseynov held a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening cultural and musical cooperation between Azerbaijan and Austria.

In Salzburg, Murad Huseynov met with Johannes Honsig-Erlenburg, President of the International Mozarteum Foundation. The meeting was attended by Leyla Gasimova, Director of the Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Vienna, and Linus Klumpner, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation.

The discussions focused on prospects for enhancing bilateral collaboration in the field of music. The parties exchanged views on organizing joint concert programs, conducting master classes and seminars, and implementing collaborative initiatives for music schools, children, and adolescents. Particular attention was given to expanding cooperation in the sphere of classical music and preserving global musical heritage.

During the talks, special emphasis was placed on promoting the legacy of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of the Azerbaijani professional music school, at the international level. Murad Huseynov underscored that such engagements play a vital role in deepening cultural dialogue and establishing sustainable partnerships between the two countries.

Meeting with Bösendorfer Leadership

In a separate meeting in Salzburg, the Deputy Minister met with Sabine Grubmüller, Managing Director of Bösendorfer, one of the world’s leading piano manufacturers.

The discussions centered on expanding bilateral cooperation through joint concerts, masterclasses, and high-profile presentation events. Both sides highlighted the importance of supporting young talents and promoting classical music through collaborative projects, agreeing to maintain and further develop cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Attendance at International Mozart Competition

Following the meetings, Murad Huseynov and Leyla Gasimova attended the final concert of the International Mozart Competition as guests of honor. The competition, organized biennially by the Mozarteum University Salzburg, is regarded as a prestigious global platform for young musicians.

At the event, young pianists from around the world showcased their mastery, performing Mozart’s timeless works accompanied by a full orchestra. The grand prize of the competition is sponsored by Bösendorfer.

The visit reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening international cultural ties and promoting classical music heritage through meaningful partnerships with leading Austrian institutions.
