Seoul, April 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: Emmanuel Macron has stressed that military action cannot resolve concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme, calling instead for renewed diplomatic engagement to address the issue.
Speaking during an official visit to South Korea, the French president cautioned that without a clear and structured framework for technical and diplomatic negotiations, regional tensions could re-emerge within months or years.
Macron also dismissed the idea of a military operation to secure the Strait of Hormuz, describing such a plan as “unrealistic.” He noted that any attempt to control the vital shipping route would be complex and time-consuming, while exposing vessels to significant risks.
He highlighted potential threats from coastal defense systems and ballistic missiles operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, emphasizing the dangers of escalation in an already sensitive region.
The remarks reflect growing international concern over stability in the Gulf and underscore calls for diplomacy as the primary means to address nuclear and security challenges.
