MIKTA Nations Condemn Killing of Indonesian UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon

Ankara, April 6, 2026 – The Europe Today: Türkiye and four other member states of the MIKTA on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, describing the attack as a grave violation of international law.

In a joint statement shared by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, MIKTA—comprising Türkiye, Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, and Australia—condemned the incident “in the strongest terms,” stressing that attacks on United Nations personnel are “unacceptable and violate international law, particularly international humanitarian law.”

The foreign ministers of the five nations expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims and extended sympathy to Indonesia, while wishing a swift recovery to those injured in the attack.

“The members of MIKTA stand in solidarity with Indonesia and fully support its call for an immediate, thorough and transparent investigation of the attacks,” the statement said.

The group also reiterated its commitment as signatories to the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel, emphasizing the urgent need to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian and peacekeeping staff operating in conflict zones.

The condemnation comes amid escalating violence in Lebanon, where Israel has intensified airstrikes and launched a ground offensive in the country’s southern regions following a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2.

According to Lebanese authorities, the ongoing Israeli military operations have resulted in at least 1,422 deaths and 3,294 injuries.

The situation has further deteriorated in the broader region following a joint offensive by the United States and Israel against Iran since February 28, which has reportedly caused over 1,340 fatalities. Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and U.S. military installations in Gulf countries.

The latest developments highlight growing international concern over the safety of peacekeepers and the intensifying conflict across the Middle East.
