Islamabad, April 8, 2026 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited delegations from the United States and Iran to Islamabad on April 10, 2026, to negotiate a “conclusive agreement” aimed at resolving all outstanding disputes, following a breakthrough ceasefire reached at Pakistan’s request.
In a statement shared on X, the prime minister announced that both the United States and Iran, along with their allies, had agreed to an immediate ceasefire across all regions, including Lebanon.
“With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, effective immediately,” he stated.
Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed the development, describing it as a “sagacious gesture,” and expressed gratitude to the leadership of both nations. He emphasized that the upcoming “Islamabad Talks” would focus on achieving a lasting and comprehensive settlement to all disputes.
He further noted that both sides had demonstrated “remarkable wisdom and understanding” and had remained constructively engaged in advancing peace and stability in the region.
“We earnestly hope that the Islamabad Talks succeed in achieving sustainable peace and look forward to sharing more positive developments in the coming days,” he added.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week suspension of bombing and military attacks on Iran, describing it as a reciprocal ceasefire arrangement. The announcement came shortly after Pakistan requested additional time for diplomatic efforts.
According to President Trump, the decision followed discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir. He stated that the suspension was contingent upon Iran ensuring the complete, immediate, and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Prime Minister Shehbaz had earlier urged the US leadership to allow a two-week window for diplomacy to progress, while also encouraging Iran to reopen the vital waterway as a gesture of goodwill.
The development marks a significant diplomatic milestone, with Pakistan playing a central role in facilitating dialogue and de-escalation between the two sides.
