Islamabad, June 4, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism, aiming to further deepen people-to-people relations between the two countries.
The understanding was reached during a meeting held on Thursday between H.E. Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia, and H.E. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture in Islamabad, where both sides discussed multiple avenues to expand cooperation, with a particular focus on exchanges of cultural delegations, institutional collaboration, and knowledge sharing between relevant organizations.
During the discussion, the Ethiopian Ambassador highlighted the longstanding historical relations and shared values between the two nations. He underscored the role of Ethiopian Airlines in strengthening connectivity, not only between Ethiopia and Pakistan, but also in linking Pakistan with the broader African region.
The Ambassador also briefed the Federal Minister on Ethiopia’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, including its unique calendar system, traditional festivals, and extensive ethnic and linguistic diversity.
To further promote people-to-people contacts, the Ambassador proposed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the cultural ministries of both countries to institutionalize cooperation and promote joint cultural and tourism initiatives.
The proposal was warmly welcomed by H.E. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, who assured full support for initiatives aimed at strengthening cultural collaboration between the two countries. He also acknowledged the growing bilateral relationship and reaffirmed his commitment to building on the strong foundation of mutual goodwill developed over the years.
Officials noted that the proposed initiatives are expected to open new avenues for cultural exchange and tourism promotion, further strengthening ties between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
