Azerbaijan Presents “Dostlug” Oil Tanker to Turkmenistan in Virtual Ceremony

Baku, June 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: A ceremony to present the “Dostlug” (Friendship) oil tanker was held in an online format on June 22, with the participation of Ilham Aliyev and Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The vessel, gifted by Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan, was constructed at the Baku Shipyard and represents a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation as well as the advancement of Azerbaijan’s shipbuilding industry.

The “Dostlug” oil tanker measures 141 meters in length, 16.9 meters in width, and has a draft of 4.54 meters. With a deadweight capacity of 7,875 tons, the vessel reflects the shipyard’s capability to undertake large-scale and technologically complex maritime projects.

Officials noted that the construction of the tanker not only strengthens Azerbaijan–Turkmenistan relations but also underscores the growing industrial and engineering capacity of the Baku Shipyard.

Shipyard performance and ongoing projects

According to details shared during the ceremony, the Baku Shipyard has built 14 vessels to date and repaired more than 170 ships.

At present, the shipyard has 17 vessels in its order portfolio, with 11 under active construction and six currently in the design phase, reflecting sustained activity in Azerbaijan’s maritime industry.
