Baku, July 16, 2026 – The Europe Today: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, held talks with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini on July 15, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership and expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
During the meeting, Speaker Gafarova highlighted the longstanding friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Slovakia, noting that bilateral ties have steadily advanced in recent years and have now reached the level of a strategic partnership.
The two officials underscored the importance of enhancing parliamentary diplomacy through the active engagement of interparliamentary friendship groups in both legislatures. They also stressed the need to deepen cooperation between relevant parliamentary committees and strengthen collaboration within international parliamentary organisations.
President Peter Pellegrini praised the strong political dialogue and high-level relations between the two countries, reaffirming Slovakia’s interest in further expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in various fields.
The Slovak President expressed confidence that the meetings and discussions held between the two countries’ leaders in Shusha, as well as the agreements reached during the visit, would provide fresh momentum for the continued development of bilateral relations.
Referring to Azerbaijan’s ongoing reconstruction and restoration efforts in its liberated territories, President Pellegrini described the participation of Slovak companies in these projects as a successful example of the growing economic partnership between the two nations.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest, reflecting the shared commitment of Azerbaijan and Slovakia to further strengthening political, parliamentary, and economic cooperation.
