Baku, July 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Ruslan Edelgeriyev, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation and Special Representative of the Russian President for Climate and Water Resources, on July 23 to discuss bilateral cooperation on climate action, COP initiatives, and regional environmental issues.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed Azerbaijan-Russia cooperation on climate-related matters, including collaboration following the COP29 Conference, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Minister Bayramov briefed the Russian presidential aide on Azerbaijan’s experience in hosting COP29 and highlighted the key outcomes achieved during the global climate conference.
The discussions also focused on bilateral cooperation concerning the Caspian Sea, with both sides emphasizing the importance of expediting the work of the joint working group on Caspian Sea issues.
The officials underscored the need to preserve the Caspian Sea’s water resources and protect its unique ecosystem. They stressed the importance of adopting innovative technologies, particularly in the agricultural sector, and expanding joint projects aimed at ensuring the sustainable management of the region’s environmental resources.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Azerbaijan and Russia to strengthening cooperation on climate action and environmental sustainability while advancing collaborative efforts to safeguard the Caspian Sea ecosystem.
