Quetta, August 29, 2024, The Europe Today: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Quetta on Thursday to address the escalating security crisis in Baluchistan, following a series of terrorist attacks that have claimed the lives of over two dozen individuals.
During his one-day visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to lead a high-level meeting to review the current security and law and order situation in the region. He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, and Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan.
The recent violence includes a devastating attack on Monday, where at least 23 passengers were killed after being forcibly removed from buses and trucks in the Rarasham area of Musakhel. In a separate incident, a gun attack in Kalat resulted in the deaths of at least 10 people, including police officers and Balochistan Levies personnel.
Further intensifying the crisis, a series of clearance operations led to the martyrdom of 14 individuals, including 10 soldiers from the security forces and four personnel from law enforcement agencies (LEAs). These operations followed a spate of attacks that left at least 37 people dead and resulted in the neutralization of 21 militants.
The recent surge in violence has prompted a strong response from both federal and provincial authorities. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unequivocally rejected any notion of dialogue or leniency towards the perpetrators, signaling a firm stance in addressing the ongoing threat.
