Kuala Lumpur, September 09, 2024, The Europe Today: Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), has been elected as the Vice-President for Southeast Asia of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the 2024-2028 term. His election, which occurred on Sunday during the 44th OCA General Assembly in New Delhi, India, was achieved unopposed.
The OCM expressed its congratulations to Tan Sri Norza in a statement, praising his exemplary leadership and steadfast commitment to the Olympic Movement both in Malaysia and across Asia. OCM Deputy President Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin highlighted Norza’s significant role in advancing the Olympic cause and his recognition by the wider Asian sports community.
In a separate development, the OCA announced that Raja Randhir Singh of India was elected unopposed as the new President of the OCA. Singh, a five-time Olympian, received 44 out of 45 votes from the National Olympic Committees, with one abstention. The elections for the OCA President, five Vice Presidents representing different zones, and five Executive Board members were all uncontested.
The use of electronic voting facilitated the process, with a majority of 50% plus one vote required for election. The successful elections mark a significant milestone for the OCA and reflect a period of stability and continuity in its leadership.
