Turkmenistan and Germany Strengthen Ties at Central Asia-Germany Summit

Astana, September 17, 2024 — The Europe Today: In a significant diplomatic engagement, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany held their inaugural bilateral meeting during the Central Asia-Germany summit in Astana. The summit, which convenes high-level representatives from Central Asia and Germany, provided a platform for discussing and advancing bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing development of Turkmen-German relations. President Berdimuhamedov conveyed his optimism that the summit would further solidify the partnership between the two nations. Chancellor Scholz reciprocated by highlighting Germany’s keen interest in deepening its collaboration with Turkmenistan.

The discussion underscored the robust foundation of their bilateral relationship, which is supported by 90 treaties and agreements. A focal point of their conversation was economic cooperation, notably the roles of the Joint Turkmen-German Working Group and the Eastern Committee of German Economy in fostering bilateral ties.

Additionally, President Berdimuhamedov extended greetings from Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty and National Leader of the Turkmen people. Chancellor Scholz expressed gratitude for the contribution made by the National Leader to the advancement of Turkmen-German relations.

The meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Germany, with both leaders committed to enhancing their collaboration in various sectors.
