Astana, October 19, 2024 – The Europe Today: Astana Qazaqstan Team rider Max Kanter secured second place in a bunch sprint during Stage 4 of the Tour of Guangxi, reclaiming the overall lead in the race. The victory came after a strong team effort, positioning Kanter well throughout the stage, with the rider praising his teammates for their support.
“I want to thank the team for their incredible support,” said Kanter. “In the final kilometer, I found the right wheel, opened my sprint, and gave it everything I had. I’m pleased to wear the leader’s jersey again, even though it was quite unexpected.”
Following the stage, it was announced that the stage winner had been penalized 20 seconds, which propelled Kanter into the overall lead. Dmitriy Fofonov, Astana Qazaqstan Team’s sports director, emphasized their strategy going forward: “We’ll defend the jersey, especially with tomorrow’s decisive mountain stage favoring our climbers, Lorenzo Fortunato and Alexey Lutsenko.”
Kanter now faces the challenge of holding onto the leader’s jersey as the race heads into more challenging terrain.
