Lahore, November 2, 2024 — The Europe Today: Despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding the participation of the Indian men’s cricket team in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the Indian blind cricket team has confirmed its attendance at the Blind Cricket T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament, organized by the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC), is set to take place in Pakistan from November 23 to December 3, marking the fourth edition of this major event.
Teams from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and host Pakistan will participate in the tournament. Lahore and Multan will host the matches, with the opening game between Pakistan and South Africa scheduled in Lahore. Notably, arch-rivals Pakistan and India will face off on November 25.
This year’s tournament is the first time the Blind T20 World Cup will be held outside India, where previous editions took place in 2012, 2017, and 2022, all of which were won by India.
While the Indian blind cricket team has eagerly confirmed participation, the Indian men’s cricket team’s participation in next year’s Champions Trophy remains uncertain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified that they are awaiting approval from the Indian federal government. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla recently shared that no decision had been made and reiterated that international tours require governmental clearance.
As fans await clarity on the Champions Trophy, the Indian blind cricket team’s upcoming tour offers a promising example of sporting ties between the two nations.
