New York, April 11, 2025 — The Europe Today: A tragic aviation accident occurred Thursday afternoon when a helicopter broke apart midair and crashed upside-down into the Hudson River between Manhattan and the New Jersey waterfront, resulting in the deaths of all six people on board.
According to the New York Fire Department, the incident was reported at 3:17 p.m. Emergency responders, including rescue boats and fire trucks, swiftly arrived at the scene near the Holland Tunnel ventilation tower on the New Jersey side of the river.
A law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that all six individuals aboard the helicopter perished in the crash. The cause of the midair disintegration is currently under investigation.
Eyewitness Bruce Wall described the harrowing scene, stating that he saw the helicopter “falling apart” in the sky, with the tail and main rotor separating from the aircraft. “The propeller was still spinning without the aircraft as it fell,” he recounted.
Dramatic footage posted to social media captured debris hitting the water and the overturned helicopter submerged, with emergency boats circling the crash site.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as a Bell 206 model. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
The incident marks the latest in a series of high-profile aviation disasters in the United States and has prompted renewed scrutiny of air safety regulations and procedures for helicopters operating in densely populated urban areas.
