HCM City, April 20, 2025 — The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính presided over a grand ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City to inaugurate and commence construction on 80 major national projects and works across the country, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – 2025).
The hybrid ceremony took place at Terminal T3 of Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport and was connected with 79 other locations in 34 provinces and cities nationwide. The event was broadcast live on the VTV1 channel of Vietnam Television.
According to the Ministry of Construction, the combined investment value of the projects exceeds VNĐ445 trillion (approximately US$17.2 billion), including VNĐ305 trillion allocated for new projects and VNĐ140 trillion for completed works. The projects span key sectors: 40 in transportation, 12 in industrial and civil construction, 12 in education, nine in culture and social affairs, five in public healthcare, and two in irrigation.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Chính underscored the strategic importance of infrastructure development, one of the three main breakthroughs identified in the nation’s development strategy. He emphasized that the launch of these projects reflects the determination and unified efforts of the Party, the State, ministries, sectors, local authorities, and enterprises in opening up new development spaces, accelerating economic growth, and laying a strong foundation for national advancement.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that these initiatives would become landmark projects, symbolic of Việt Nam’s progress and international image as a nation of “independence, peace, unity, resilience, happiness, prosperity, and civilization.”
He also highlighted key lessons drawn from past socio-economic and infrastructure development, reaffirming the critical role of connectivity among provinces, regions, and international partners in promoting inclusive growth.
Calling for swift and efficient implementation, PM Chính urged all investors and contractors to promptly mobilize resources and workforce to begin construction, aiming for early completion, high quality, and cost efficiency. He stressed the importance of bringing the projects into operation as quickly as possible to deliver socio-economic benefits.
Local authorities were tasked with ensuring timely land clearance and supporting investors and contractors in expediting procedures related to construction materials and waste management. The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of social welfare, urging a continued focus on the development of one million social housing units by 2030 and the complete elimination of temporary and dilapidated housing nationwide within this year.
