Beijing, July 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Monday emphasized the importance of advancing full and rigorous Party self-governance by fostering sound conduct within the Party. His remarks were delivered while presiding over a group study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, held on the eve of the anniversary of the Party’s founding.
On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, Xi extended festive greetings to all Party members across the country. The study session focused on the implementation of the eight-point rules issued by the CPC Central Committee to improve Party conduct and governance.
Xi described the eight-point rules as a landmark initiative in the Party’s efforts to enhance self-governance in the new era. Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, he noted, the Party has firmly upheld discipline, launched educational campaigns, and undertaken a series of rectification efforts aimed at eliminating undesirable work styles such as formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism, and extravagance.
“These efforts have improved the overall effectiveness of Party governance and gathered tremendous positive energy for the development of the Party and the country’s cause,” Xi stated.
Highlighting the formidable nature of the task to advance Chinese modernization, Xi emphasized the complex internal and external governance environment faced by the Party. This, he said, necessitates a stronger commitment to self-reform, particularly among senior officials.
“Leading officials, especially senior cadres, must take the lead in practicing self-reform,” Xi said, adding that such efforts require strengthening Party spirit and reinforcing ideals and convictions.
Addressing the issue of anti-corruption, Xi stressed the need for a well-regulated exercise of power and determined action against both disciplinary and legal violations. He called for strict Party discipline to be translated into tangible actions, with “ironclad rules showing their iron teeth,” thereby sending a clear message of zero tolerance for misconduct.
“There must be unwavering strictness and a strong deterrent effect across the entire Party,” he emphasized.
Xi also urged Party organizations at all levels to take full responsibility for Party self-governance. He called for problems to be addressed directly and rectifications to be implemented thoroughly as part of the ongoing education campaign centered on the eight-point rules.
Finally, Xi highlighted the need to strengthen mechanisms to maintain clean and disciplined conduct within the Party on a long-term basis, thereby reinforcing the foundation for the CPC’s continued leadership and China’s development goals.
