Morocco Welcomes Over 1.5 Million Diaspora Members Through 2025 Marhaba Operation

Rabat, July 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: Morocco has warmly welcomed over 1.5 million members of its diaspora by July 10 as part of the 2025 Marhaba operation, marking a notable 13.30% increase compared to the same period last year, according to figures presented by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita during a briefing to the Government Council.

The Marhaba operation is Morocco’s annual summer initiative designed to assist Moroccans living abroad (MREs) in returning home for vacation. The significant rise in arrivals reflects the enduring connection between Morocco and its global diaspora.

As of July 10, a total of 1,520,951 MREs had returned to the country, alongside 151,411 vehicles — a 3.56% increase from 2024. During peak travel days, Morocco has been processing more than 67,000 arrivals daily, with July 14 recording the highest single-day entry figures so far this season.

To accommodate this surge, Moroccan authorities have reinforced logistical and infrastructural capabilities. The 2025 maritime plan includes 29 ships operated by seven companies across 12 sea routes, linking Moroccan ports with Spain, France, and Italy. These routes now offer a capacity of 7.3 million passengers and two million vehicles, reflecting a 3% rise in transport capacity compared to last year.

The government anticipates this upward trend to continue in the coming weeks as more diaspora families make their way back for summer holidays.

The Marhaba operation not only facilitates safe and efficient travel for MREs but also highlights Morocco’s steadfast commitment to fostering strong ties with its expatriate community, which remains a vital contributor to the national economy through remittances, investments, and cultural exchange.

The success of the 2025 operation underscores Morocco’s broader strategy of engagement with its citizens abroad and reaffirms the deep-rooted bonds that unite Moroccans across the globe.
