Avaza, August 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has extended his congratulations to participants of the scientific and practical conference “The Caspian Sea – Sea of Friendship and Peace” and on the occasion of Caspian Sea Day, Turkmenistan’s official media reported on Tuesday.
In his congratulatory message, the head of state reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to advancing initiatives aimed at strengthening trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation among the Caspian littoral states. He underscored the significance of the first Caspian Summit held in Ashgabat as a milestone in regional dialogue.
President Berdimuhamedov highlighted key achievements in multilateral engagement, including the Caspian Environmental Forum in 2012, the first Caspian Economic Forum in 2019, and proposals presented during the sixth Caspian Summit in 2022. He also drew attention to the initiative introduced at the 2023 UN General Assembly to establish the Caspian Environmental Initiative, designed to foster joint environmental protection efforts.
Noting Avaza’s role as a model of environmentally sustainable development and a hub for major international gatherings—such as the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries—the President expressed confidence that the current forum and associated events would strengthen cooperation among Caspian states, safeguard the region’s ecosystem and biodiversity, and contribute to peace and mutual trust.
Caspian Sea Day, established in 2006, commemorates the adoption of the Tehran Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.
