Hanoi, December 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: The state visit to Laos by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, coinciding with the ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Lao National Day, carries profound significance for both nations and their longstanding special relationship, according to Bounleua Phandanouvong, Head of the External Relations Commission of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee.
Speaking to Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Laos on the occasion of the two-day visit beginning Monday, Phandanouvong highlighted that the trip aims not only to advance recently signed cooperation agreements between the two Parties and states but also holds deep political and historical meaning for strengthening bilateral ties.
This marks General Secretary Tô Lâm’s first official visit to Laos in his current role, reflecting the high priority Vietnam places on its relationship with its neighbour, he noted.
The visit comes at a time when Laos is celebrating several key national milestones, including the 105th birth anniversary of President Kaysone Phomvihane, adding further diplomatic weight to the occasion.
Phandanouvong emphasized that the visit will provide fresh momentum to the Lao Party, State, and people, while reaffirming the enduring Laos–Vietnam friendship and solidarity— a bond forged through shared struggles for national liberation and sustained through ongoing cooperation in national development and defence.
He underscored that the event also reiterates the unwavering commitment of the leadership of both Parties and states to elevate their great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation. It serves as an opportunity to deepen public understanding, particularly among younger generations, of the importance of preserving this unique relationship.
Concluding his remarks, the Lao official extended his hopes for the continued strength and longevity of the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam for generations to come.
