Munich, February 13, 2026 – The Europe Today: Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen are set to meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, with discussions expected to focus on Greenland’s strategic role in the Arctic.
Frederiksen confirmed that she intends to hold talks with Rubio during the high-level security gathering in Munich, while Nielsen is also expected to participate in the meeting, according to media reports.
Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has gained increasing geopolitical and strategic significance due to its Arctic location and vast natural resources. The island sits at a critical juncture between North America and Europe, making it central to discussions on Arctic security, infrastructure development and economic cooperation.
The meeting comes amid heightened attention by the United States and its allies toward the Arctic region, as melting ice caps open new shipping routes and access to untapped resources. Western governments have also been strengthening cooperation on defense, climate resilience and sustainable development in the High North.
Officials are expected to exchange views on regional stability, transatlantic cooperation and the evolving security landscape in the Arctic, reflecting the growing importance of Greenland in global strategic calculations.
