Ashgabat, February 15, 2026 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Friday dismissed and appointed several city and district governors during an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to official media reports.
In Ahal province, Charygeldy Charlyyev was relieved of his duties as governor of the Gokdepe district. Nurberdi Kakabayev, previously deputy chairman of the Turkmenobahyzmat state association, was appointed as his successor. In the Tejen district, Guvanch Yazmyradov was dismissed due to improper performance of duties, with Kerven Charyyev named as the new governor.
In Balkan province, Didar Meredov was relieved as governor of the Magtymguly district following a transfer to another position. Meylis Mergenov, formerly governor of the Turkmenbashi district, was appointed to replace him. Abdyrahman Babaniyazov was subsequently appointed governor of the Turkmenbashi district. Ashyrmyrat Ovezov was dismissed as governor of the Bereket district, with Akmammet Garajayev appointed in his place. Additionally, Amangeldy Isaev was relieved as governor of the city of Turkmenbashi, and Niyazjan Niyazjanov was appointed to the post.
In Dashoguz province, Baymyrat Khandurdyyev was dismissed as governor of the Shavat district, and Merdan Orayev was appointed as his replacement.
In Lebap province, Guvanch Bazarov was relieved of his duties as governor of the city of Turkmenabat. Erkin Achylov, previously head of the Hojambaz district, was appointed to the role. Azat Amandurdyyev was dismissed as governor of the Darganata district, with Begench Mamedbayev named as his successor. Ilyas Ovezov was relieved as governor of the Koytendag district, and Rustam Allaberdyev was appointed.
In Mary province, Kakageldi Saryyev was dismissed as governor of the city of Mary. Artyk Bashimov, previously serving as deputy governor, was appointed to the position. Muhammetdurdy Mamiyev was relieved as governor of the Yoloten district, with Shagylych Berdiyev, formerly deputy governor of the province, appointed as his replacement. Maksat Amanmyradov was dismissed as governor of the Mary district, and Maksatmyrat Saparmuradov was named to the post.
The Cabinet meeting also reviewed the country’s results for 2025, heard reports from deputy prime ministers, ministry heads, and provincial governors, and discussed key social and economic priorities for 2026, alongside personnel matters.
