Lisbon, March 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: Portuguese President António José Seguro has expressed interest in visiting Turkmenistan in the future, according to a statement issued by Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Seguro made the remarks during a brief meeting with Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Portugal Maksat Charyyev on the sidelines of an official reception held at the Ajuda National Palace in Lisbon on Monday.
During the exchange, Ambassador Charyyev conveyed congratulations from the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on Seguro’s victory in the presidential election and extended best wishes on assuming the highest office of the Portuguese Republic.
The Turkmen diplomat also attended the official inauguration ceremony of Seguro as Portugal’s new president.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the plenary hall of the Assembly of the Republic and was attended by senior Portuguese officials, cabinet members, members of parliament and high-level foreign delegations.
