Baku, June 13, 2026 — The Europe Today: Azerbaijan is set to open its embassy in the Portuguese Republic following the approval of a draft law by the country’s parliament.
The draft law titled “On the establishment of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Portuguese Republic (Lisbon)” was put to a vote during a plenary session of the Milli Majlis and subsequently adopted.
The decision marks an important step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal, paving the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres.
With the establishment of the new embassy in Lisbon, Azerbaijan aims to expand its diplomatic presence in Europe and further develop mutual engagement with Portugal on issues of shared interest at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
Officials view the move as part of Azerbaijan’s broader foreign policy efforts to deepen international partnerships and strengthen its network of diplomatic missions worldwide.
