Washington, July 22, 2026 – The Europe Today: The United States on Tuesday announced the launch of the first phase of a $100 million humanitarian assistance package for Cuba, as the Caribbean island continues to face a severe economic crisis.
According to a statement issued by the US State Department, the initial shipment includes pre-packaged food and hygiene kits intended to support up to 700 Cuban families. The aid was scheduled to depart from Miami by air.
The State Department said the humanitarian supplies will be distributed directly by the Catholic Church to ensure assistance reaches vulnerable families across the island.
The aid package was proposed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in May as part of Washington’s efforts to provide humanitarian support to the Cuban people amid ongoing economic hardships.
US officials said the assistance is aimed at addressing urgent humanitarian needs by providing essential food and hygiene supplies to affected households while ensuring delivery through trusted local partners.
