Baku, August 02, 2026 – The Europe Today: First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Azerbaijani poet Nariman Hasanzada, paying tribute to his enduring literary legacy and remarkable personal qualities.
In a message shared on her official social media accounts following the death of the People’s Poet on August 1, Mehriban Aliyeva described Hasanzada as an extraordinary literary figure whose memory would remain forever in her heart.
“Nariman Hasanzada has passed away. His memory will live on in my heart forever—not only as a great Master and People’s Poet, but, above all, as a radiant, kind, caring, and sincere individual—a truly great human being in the truest sense of the word,” she wrote.
The First Vice-President concluded her message with a prayer, saying, “May Allah rest his soul in peace.”
Nariman Hasanzada, one of Azerbaijan’s most celebrated poets, playwrights, scholars, and public figures, passed away at the age of 96 after a distinguished career spanning more than six decades. Widely regarded as one of the foremost voices of modern Azerbaijani literature, he made significant contributions to the nation’s cultural heritage through his poetry, dramatic works, and public service.
Throughout his lifetime, Hasanzada received numerous prestigious state honors in recognition of his contributions to Azerbaijani literature and culture, including the Shohrat, Sharaf, Istiglal, and Heydar Aliyev orders.
Mehriban Aliyeva’s tribute joins the outpouring of condolences from Azerbaijan’s leadership and cultural community, reflecting the profound respect and admiration for Nariman Hasanzada’s lasting contributions to the country’s literary and cultural life.
