Ashgabat, September 19, 2026 – The Europe Today: A ceremonial conference dedicated to the conferment of the title of “Honorary Doctor of Political Sciences” upon President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov by Sungkyunkwan University of the Republic of Korea was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on September 18.
The event was attended by senior officials and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, rectors and faculty members of higher education institutions, scholars, diplomats, media representatives and students.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov delivered the opening address.
Meredov said the conferment of the honorary doctorate by Sungkyunkwan University represented recognition of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s contributions to the development of Turkmenistan, its political system, economy and social sphere, as well as his role in enhancing the country’s position and influence on the international stage.
The conference noted that Sungkyunkwan University is among the world’s oldest educational institutions and enjoys a strong reputation within the international academic and educational community.
Speakers at the event highlighted what they described as the President’s contribution to strengthening international cooperation, promoting mutual understanding and expanding cultural and humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and countries around the world.
Participants also emphasized the significance of the honorary doctorate for further strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in such areas as science, education, digitalization and the training of highly qualified specialists.
A thematic exhibition was held on the sidelines of the conference, showcasing Turkmenistan’s achievements in science and education, as well as the country’s developing international relations.
At the conclusion of the event, participants adopted an address to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressing appreciation for efforts aimed at strengthening Turkmenistan’s international standing, advancing science and education, and expanding productive cooperation with foreign partners.
